Amitabh Bachchan: The megastar's characters that were larger than life

The megastar of Bollywood Amitabh Bachchan will soon complete his 50 golden years working as a full-time actor. The actor marked his debut in the year 1969 with the Khwaja Ahmad Abbas's directorial, Saat Hindustani. Across the various genres, he has portrayed numerous characters. Here are some of his larger-than-life characters who were loved and praised by the audience and the critics.

Vijay Verma - Deewar

Struggling with a series of unfortunate events of life, Vijay fights for his and his family's rights. To support the well-being of his family, he starts as a boot polisher as a child. Later in his teenage, he becomes a dockyard worker and ends up as a smuggler and a leading figure of the underworld in his adulthood. His character fails to realise that the path he has opted is taking him away from the people for whom he walked on it in the first place.

Iqbal - Coolie

Amitabh shined in the role of a dynamic, confident young man, who takes pride in what he does. Due to his these traits, he is considered as the leader of the local coolies. His role of the common working-class man who takes on the rich was loved by the audience. The movie was also known for the life-threatening accident Amitabh had while shooting.

Buddhadev Gupta - Cheeni Kum

His character Buddhadev, an arrogant and egocentric man, who is in his 60's falls in love with a 34-year-old lady. The film explores the struggles of a 64-year-old bachelor man to convince his father to accept his love interest played by Tabu. He also shares a beautiful bond of friendship with a 9-year-old-girl who is diagnosed with cancer. 

Auro - Paa

The actor played the character of a 12-year-old boy who is intelligent and witty but diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder known as Progeria. This is not the only struggle for his character Auro. Auro as a dynamic character tries to reunite his parents when he is on death bed. He forgives his father for not accepting him and hurting his mother.

Dattatraya Vakharia - 102 Not Out

Dattatraya Vakharia character tries to teach the audience how one can live their life happily. As a 102-year-old father, he lives his life way different than his 76-year-old son. Though his character's son played by Rishi Kapoor has accepted his old age, Dattatraya never misses an opportunity to relive the moments.
