Amitabh Bachchan unable to make KIFF, Mamata Banerjee gives update

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan was scheduled to inaugurate the 25th Kolkata International Film Festival on Friday at Kolkata;he could not attend owing to ill health.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took the stage during the inauguration of the 25th Kolkata International Film Festival on Friday and stated that superstar Amitabh Bachchan could not attend the event on account of his ill health. She went on to reveal that the reason the veteran actor, who has been unwell for the past few days, could not turn up for the inauguration was that he had been severely indisposed. Mamata Banerjee then addressed the audience and said that even though Amitabh Bachchan had to skip the festival, his fond thoughts were always with the people of Kolkata.

After the inaugurating speech at the Kolkata International Film Festival, chief minister Mamata Banerjee went on to light the ceremonial lamp along with other veterans from the film industry who were present for the occasion. Among the dignitaries present for the event were the yesteryear actor Rakhee Gulzar, popular Bollywood director Mahesh Bhatt, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, and others. Amitabh Bachchan had to cancel his scheduled visit for the inauguration as his doctors had advised him complete rest and restricted his movements.

Doctors advise Amitabh Bachchan to cut back from work

The week-long Kolkata International Film Festival took off on Friday and is scheduled to end on November 15. Meanwhile, veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan has been strictly advised to take time off work and rest. The actor has been in the news for days now due to his ill health. The actor took to Twitter and apologized for not being able to grace the occasion and stated that he "will make up for it someday".

The 77-year-old superstar touted as the Shahenshah of Bollywood recently completed 50 years in the film industry. He has also been selected to receive the esteemed Dadasaheb Phalke Award this year. Amitabh Bachchan has a full slate ahead with Jhund, Chehre, Gulabo Sitabo and Brahmastra besides his hosting duties on Kaun Banega Crorepati.
