Andaz Apna Apna: Raveena Tandon says everyone was fighting on sets

Bollywood is known for the ‘catfight’ between the female actors and even today, when two women are the leads, 'Were there ‘fights’? is a common question posed to them. This angers them too and Saand Ki Aankh stars Taapsee Pannu, Bhumi Pednekar had a quirky way to slam the sexist question recently. Moreover, men being best friends with each other on sets is also a myth. On the sets of the classic Andaz Apna Apna, it was not just the ladies, Raveeena Tandon and Karisma Kapoor, but also Aamir Khan and Salman Khan who were not on talking terms with each other. In fact, there were fights galore on the sets, but the movie still managed to get completed and acquired a ‘cult’ status today.

As the movie completed 25 years of its release on Monday, one of the members of the cast, Raveena Tandon in an interview with a media publication, revealed that shooting the comedy was a ‘lot of fun’, but the sets were not devoid of problems. The actor revealed that none of the leads were on talking terms with each other. The 45-year-old added that Aamir Khan and Salman Khan were not talking to each other during the filming, and that was the case with Raveena Tandon and Karisma Kapoor too. Moreover, Salman was not on talking terms with the director Rajkumar Santoshi, Raveena revealed. The Mohra actor even wondered how the film got made eventually, quipping that it was probably because they were ‘damn good actors.’

The rift between Karisma and Raveena at that time was intense, it seems, as Raveena also said that the male actors would try their best to patch them up. However, even that failed and Rajkumar Santoshi came up with a plan. During the climax, where the ladies are tied to a pillar,  Rajkumar Santoshi told them, ‘We won’t untie you, unless you talk to one another’, Raveena Tandon shared. She stated that such moments from the sets were ‘funny’, and that they had an enjoyable time despite the fights as they would even laugh while shooting some of the scenes over the hilarious dialogues. Despite their then equation, Raveena said that she enjoys a great equation with Salman and Aamir today.

Still not watched it 

In the interview, Raveena also revealed that she still has not watched the movie fully till today, something she plans to do along with her kids someday. She revealed that due to the hectic schedules, all she managed to watch were the scenes while dubbing for it. The Dilwale star added that comedies with double meaning dialogues would work then, and that’s why Andaz Apna Apna had not done that well.

Andaz Apna Apna was not a success at the box office, but became very popular after it aired on TV. The movies also starred Shakti Kapoor and Paresh Rawal in hilarious roles. Rumours of a sequel to it keep surfacing frequently.
