Feminism has become the word of the century. Even in Bollywood, more and more actresses are standing up for equal pay and telling more woman-oriented stories. One such actor is Anushka Sharma. In her 11 years career span in the film industry, she has often been regarded as someone who is outspoken on issues that matter. Fans of the Pari star consider her to be among those female actors who are true feminists.

Moments when Anushka Sharma proved that she was a feminist

'We should all be feminists'

Anushka Sharma was the cover girl of Vogue’s March 2017 edition. She was seen donning a ‘We should all be feminists’ T-shirt paired with a black skirt, spelling out in no uncertain terms what her views on this subject are. The cover page of the magazine also said that Anushka Sharma is not afraid of the 'F-word', that is feminism.

Not just for the magazine cover, Anushka has donned the T-shirt with a strong pro-feminism message at other occasions as well. She was seen flaunting the same slogan T-shirt with ‘We should all be feminists’ written on it at a casual do.

'Capable of producing my own films'

The multi-talented actor had also strongly quashed the rumours that her 2017 movie 'Phillauri' was produced by her beau, cricketer Virat Kohli. In an open letter, Anushka had slammed certain media reports that the movie was not produced by her. She stated in the letter, that she was more than capable of producing and promoting her own films.

'Freedom to choose is empowering'

Anushka Sharma was trolled after the release of her sports drama Sultan, alongside Salman Khan. She played the character of Jaan Aarfa, a female wrestler in the film. According to many, her character was 'less feminist', and that she fell short of her role. When her character in the movie was shown to be a woman who gives up her Olympic dream to give birth to a child, many felt that Anushka is all words and no action when it comes to feminism. In response, Anushka Sharma took to her Twitter handle to tell her critics about women empowerment. In another tweet, Anushka shared a letter by Belarusian professional tennis player Victoria Azarenka, perhaps to better explain Aarfa’s decision to choose motherhood over career.
