'Badhaai Ho' Actress Neena Gupta: I Was Scared, Alone, Had No Money, Husband Or Relatives During My Pregnancy

Neena Gupta, who was recently seen essaying the role of a 50-year-old pregnant woman in 'Badhaai Ho', revealed her rough phase of life during her pregnancy.

Veteran actress Neena Gupta is currently garnering praises for her recently-released 'Badhaai Ho'. The film also stars Ayushmann Khurrana , 'Dangal' actress Sanya Malhotra and Gajraj Rao. 'Badhaai Ho' is tipped to be a coming-of-age story with a tinge of romance and is helmed by Amit Sharma who made his debut in 2015 with Arjun Kapoor's 'Tevar'. 
Neena Gupta, in an exclusive interview to Republic TV, talked about her experience on the sets, and how her real-life pregnancy period was unlike the one on the screen.

'Badhaai Ho' is doing exceptionally well at the box office thereby raking Rs 51 crores in just five days. Neena Gupta is the mother of  designer Masaba Gupta, whom she had with legendary cricketer Vivian Richards out of wedlock. When asked about whether she could relate to her real-life pregnancy and reminisce those days, she admitted facing a rough time,"I couldn't reminisce my pregnancy period. I had a totally different experience when I first embraced motherhood. I was a single mother back then, I was scared, I was alone and had no money. I didn't have a husband and relatives. It was a completely different pregnancy. But talking about my current experience, my fellow colleagues on the set, Gajraj (Rao) ji, Surekha (Sikri) ji, Ayushmann, Sanya made me feel like I am their family member and I loved their company."

Neena rose to popularity while working on TV shows like 'Saans', 'Siski', 'Saat Phere' and 'Kamzor Kadii Kaun'.The actress revealed that it was these small roles on the small screen which gave her money, name and fame. The actress took a dig at the hypocrisy that exists in the film industry, also revealing that the actresses who reach the age of 40s and 50s are not given 'good and meaningful' roles, but she said that she is glad that the trend is changing.

Neena Gupta has been a part of several films this year right from  'Badhaai Ho', 'Mulk' and 'Veere Di Wedding'. The actress will also be next seen in  'Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar'. The film also features Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra in lead roles and is slated to release next year.
