The Bollywood industry has given us multiple hit films ranging from romance to action to comedy and thrillers. The movies take us on a rollercoaster of emotions capturing the essence of various types. The films also managed to capture the essence of a city from various perspectives. Here is a list of a few films that capture the national capital -Delhi.

Films that capture the essence of Delhi 

Do Dooni Chaar 

Starring Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, Do Dooni Chaar revolves around the family of Duggals, a lower-middle-class family settled in Delhi who dream of buying their first car. This dream leads to a series of hilarious events backed by a good script and strong acting.

Delhi in a Day 

The film follows the family of Bhatias who has a visitor from the UK. When the visitor’s stack of cash goes missing, the blame is simply pushed at the Bhatias’ servants. The film perfectly captures the social diversion between the rich and their domestic help which is a problem across the country.  

Band Baaja Baaraat 

The film follows the lives of two ambitious people trying to expand their wedding planning business to the posh locality of South Delhi. While the film is quite predictable, it is entertaining to watch.

Delhi – 6 

The film is set in old Delhi and perfectly captures the lives of people residing in that part of the city. The film is a tribute by the director to the city and creates a wonderful vista of the historic neighbourhood.  

Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!

The director Dibakar Banerjee who was born and brought up in Delhi and therefore easily captures the nuances of the city. The film follows the life of a burglar named Lucky and shows how middle-class people dream bigger than their predecessors but find it hard to break the barriers.
