Chhapaak actor Deepika Padukone on why it is her toughest role so far

Deepika Padukone’s work has always received immense praise from audiences and critics. Many believe that she is brilliant when it comes to choosing her scripts. Recently during a celebrity event, Deepika spoke about her upcoming movie, Chhapaak. She said that Chhapaak has been her toughest and most emotional project to date.

Deepika Padukone talks about Chhapaak

Chhapaak is a biopic about the acid attack survivor, Laxmi Agrawal. Deepika Padukone is portraying Laxmi in the film. Speaking at a session during the event, Deepika revealed how Chhapaak has been her toughest and most emotional project to date. The Padmaavat actor said that until Chhapaak, she thought her movies with Sanjay Leela Bhansali were the most emotional, as it was just not about the director or the character but the whole process and hurdles the film has to go through. Deepika also added that during the shoots of Chhapaak, she used to get extremely exhausted after having to get the prosthetics done for around three hours and another hour to take it off. Padukone stated that all this process made her emotionally feel those burns.

The actress further added that on the last day of their shoot, she asked her team to get an extra prosthetic. Post the last shot at a hospital, Deepika asked her team to burn the extra prosthetic and watched it turn into ashes. The actor spoke out her emotions saying that she stood there till it turned into ashes, till those eyes and nose would burn out completely. This made her feel like those parts were out of her system.

About the film

Chhapaak is a biopic directed by Meghna Gulzar. The movie is based on the life of Laxmi Agarwal, who is an acid attack survivor. The film depicts the investigation of the attack, the court proceedings, the medical treatment, and the emotional healing. Deepika Padukone plays the lead role in the film. Chhapaak will be released by January 2020.
