'Didn't know it was possible to tell a story in 10 seconds': Aamir Khan amazed as Kiran Rao conveys important issues in short stories

It’s been eight years since Kiran Rao made her one and only film ‘Dhobi Ghat’, but her recent 10-second stories prove why she should be making more movies. The director’s recent ventures highlighting issues like gender discrimination and domestic violence and how to deal with them even left husband Aamir Khan amazed as he earlier felt 10-second stories were impossible.

Aamir on Tuesday took to Instagram and shared the two 10-second short stories. The first one features two siblings, who are given unequal amounts of milk in their glasses by their mother. Wondering why he is given more, the brother happily pours his excess in his glass into his sister’s as they delightfully enjoy their refreshments. 

The second video features Flora Saini, known for ‘Stree’ and numerous web series like ‘Inside Edge’. A domestic help is seen taking the ice pack from her employer after he places it on the blow around her eye. The former also hands the mobile phone with number 100 on it to encourage her to not keep quiet and report it to the cops as the latter obliges.

Aamir wrote, “Hey guys, Kiran has made some 10sec films. I didn't know it was even possible to tell a story in 10 seconds! She has shown me how. Check them out (1/2)  Love.  a.” 

Not just highlighting the social ills, but also throwing light on ‘it takes a few seconds to show courage’ or ‘it takes a few seconds to show change’, in the shortest videos, deserves applause.

Work towards the drought problem in Maharashtra through the Paani Foundation, ‘Satyameva Jayate’, that highlighted numerous social issues, and the documentary ‘Rubaru Roshni’, that sent the message of forgiveness, that released earlier this year are among the other ventures Aamir-Kiran has been involved in.
