Twinkle Khanna sheds light on mother’s advise
In a video by Tweak India, Twinkle Khanna recalled Dimple Kapadia’s reaction when Akshay Kumar asked for her hand in marriage. She said, “When my husband said he wants to marry me, my mother said, ‘Nothing doing, you live together for two years. If you make it, then you get married.” The actress also shared the reason why her mother gave the advice.

Though Dimple Kapadia never got a divorce, she was separated from her husband Rajesh Khanna. Consequently, Twinkle Khanna ended up spending most time with her mother. She recalled Dimple referring to her rocky marriage and so she said, “I have been married. I’ve seen what it’s like”.
Twinkle Khanna opens up on being raised by a single mother
In the same video, the Mela actress shared that she wondered what would have happened had her parents never separated. She says, “I feel that maybe if my parents were together, would I really want to constantly keep working, doing something? I probably wouldn’t”. Twinkle also added that since she was raised largely by her mother, a male figure remained missing from her life and so she remained a stranger to the concept of patriarchy for the longest time.
