Dream Girl: Annu Kapoor rocks as Ayushmann's father, Jagjit Singh

Ayushmann Khurrana’s latest film, Dream Girl, has entered the Rs. 100 crore club. The film was released on September 13, 2019. It has been widely applauded by both audience and critics alike for its unusual plot and the actors' comic timing. Dream Girl is directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa and produced by Balaji Motion Pictures. The film also stars Nushrat Bharucha and veteran actor Annu Kapoor in pivotal roles.

Dream Girl marked the comeback of the hilarious Vicky Donor duo, Ayushmann and Annu Kapoor. Annu Kapoor played the role of Dr. Baldev Chaddha in Vicky Donor. He essayed the role of Ayushmann’s father, Jagjit Singh, in the latest film. Vicky Donor, released in 2012, was also a huge commercial success.

Annu Kapoor as Jagjit Singh

Ayushmann’s character Karamvir Singh possesses a unique talent for imitating female voices. This helps him to score a job at a call centre where he dons the character of Pooja and talks to customers. Jagjit Singh (Annu Kapoor), who is Karamvir’s father, ends up falling in love with his son, aka Pooja. The film follows the hilarious problems that Karamvir finds himself in due to Pooja.

Critics and the audience are all praises for Annu Kapoor for his exceptional portrayal of Jagjit Singh. His crazy obsession for his ‘love’ Pooja makes him don Muslim attire, speak in Urdu, and even trying to look younger by dressing up as Shah Rukh Khan from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. The National Award-winning actor has done total justice to the role. His perfect comic timing was just icing on the cake.

During the promotions of Dream Girl, Annu Kapoor spoke to the media saying that he thinks the film will work. He also added that the film might be able to reach Rs. 180 crores commercially. With Dream Girl reaching great box office numbers in just two weeks of release, it is yet to be seen whether it will be able to touch Kapoor’s benchmark. The veteran actor shares a fantastic rapport with his co-star Ayushmann Khurrana and that is seen in the chemistry between the two on-screen.
