There have been quite a few instances over the years when Bollywood actors have rejected movies which have then gone on to become blockbusters. For instance Salman Khan and Aamir Khan reportedly rejected Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (1995), which became a turning point in Shah Rukh Khan's career. Shah Rukh, in turn, turned down Munna Bhai M.B.B.S., which revived Sanjay Dutt's career. Ranbir Kapoor, who is amongst the finest actors of the generation, also has a fair share of movies that he has rejected. Coincidentally, most of them were later offered to Ranveer Singh and turned out to be major breakthroughs for him. Though both are exceptional actors, what they bring to the table differs vastly. Here are five films that Ranbir ended up rejecting, which were later taken up by Ranveer Singh.

Ranveer Singh films that were first offered to Ranbir Kapoor

1. Band Baaja Baaraat (2010)

Though it may be hard to believe for many, Band Baaja Baarat was initially offered to Ranbir Kapoor. Aditya Chopra, the chairman of Yash Raj Films, reportedly wanted Ranbir to act in the movie. The Sanju actor, however, turned down the film. Chopra then decided to cast a new face, which then gave fans Ranveer Singh as Bittoo Sharma. Singh himself revealed this in an interview. Ranveer also won the IIFA (2011) and Filmfare (2011) awards for Best Male Debut for this film.

2. Goliyon ki Rasleela Ram-Leela (2013)

Much like Ranveer's debut film, Ranbir was the first choice for Ram-Leela. Having assisted and starred in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saawariya (2007), Ranbir was the first choice of the director. However, the actor turned down the role, which later went to Ranveer Singh. The movie went on to become one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films of the year. Not only did it prove to be a highlight in Ranveer's Bollywood career, but he also met and fell in love with his co-star Deepika Padukone during the shooting of the film.

3. Dil Dhadakne Do (2015)

Ranbir Kapoor has always expressed a desire to work with Zoya Akhtar. However, when he had the opportunity to work in Dil Dhadakne Do, he turned down the role. When asked about it, Ranbir resorted to destiny, saying that sometimes it happens when it is meant to, and sometimes it does not. Fans and critics appreciated Ranveer's work in the film, and another hit was added to his filmography.

4. Befikre (2016)

Though not as successful as the previous films, the part was initially written for Ranbir Kapoor. Aditya Chopra wanted his first non-SRK directorial venture to star Ranbir Kapoor. However, the actor once again refused the director, after which Ranveer Singh was roped in for the part. The film received mixed responses overall, but Ranveer's avatar won hearts among the audience.

5. Gully Boy (2019)

This Ranveer Singh-Alia Bhatt starrer had also been offered to Ranbir Kapoor first. However, while Zoya Akhtar claimed that she always had Ranveer in mind to play Murad, there was another role for Ranbir. The Rockstar actor was allegedly not ready to play a supporting role, and is hence said to have turned the director down once again. The film went on to receive an overwhelming response from audience and critics alike.

Apart from these movies, Ranbir Kapoor has also rejected Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (Abhay Deol's role), Delhi Belly (Imran Khan's part) and Two States (Arjun Kapoor's character). Ranveer Singh, on the other hand, has turned down Hollywood films due to his Bollywood commitments. Ranbir Kapoor is all set to star in Brahmastra alongside Alia Bhatt, while Ranveer Singh has Takht and 83 lined up. All movies are scheduled to release next year.
