Gangs of Wasseypur only India film in 'top films' list, Kashyap reacts

Anurag Kashyap's 'Gangs Of Wasseypur' became the only Indian film to feature on The Guardian's list of 100 Best Films of the 21st century. The director reacts

Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has got yet another reason to rejoice as his much-celebrated 2012 action drama Gangs of Wasseypur has become the only Indian film to feature in The Guardian's list of 100 Best Films of the 21st century. In fact, it is the only Indian film that made up to the list. Anurag Kashyap took to social media and revealed that the film has been ranked 59th in the list, however, he contradicted with the choice of the films and said: "Proud to be here but this wouldn’t be my list." Elaborating his point, Anurag Kashyap further stated, "So many films which are my favourites can’t be below my film.. and 'The Dark Knight' deserves to be way up." 

Nevertheless, Anurag Kashyap agreed to the number 1 film, which is Paul Thomas Anderson’s strange masterpiece There Will Be Blood (2007). Referring to the film, Kashyap said, "That’s my absolute favorite of the 21st century."

Anurag Kashyap says 'Gangs of Wasseypur' ruined his career

In the post, Anurag Kashyap further continued to talk about how 'Gangs of Wasseypur' ruined his filmmaking life. The actor said that the film has set expectations it sets from him as a filmmaker and he has been continuously trying to break away from it. The actor concluded his post saying, "Hopefully, someday that will happen."

Kalki Koechlin cheers for ex-husband Anurag Kashyap

Meanwhile, as Kashyap shared the post, the filmmaker's former wife actress Kalki Koechlin came forward to cheer for her ex-husband. She commented on Kashyap's post saying, "Yes boss😎"

Kalki Koechlin was previously married to renowned filmmaker Anurag Kashyap who directed her critically acclaimed film That Girl in Yellow Boots. The pair tied the knot in April 2011 after almost two years of dating and divorced in 2015. However, unlike most separated couples,  Kalki Koechlin and Anurag Kashyap are known to be good friends. Gangs of Wasseypur

Featuring an ensemble cast with Manoj Bajpayee, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Huma Qureshi, Richa Chadda and Tigmanshu Dhulia, the first installment of Gangs of Wasseypur was released on June 22, 2012. The critically acclaimed venture is considered one of Anurag Kashyap's bests. Based on a real-life story, Gangs of Wasseypur revolves around a gangster, who clashes with a coal mining mafia starring Manoj Bajpayee as the protagonist. The second installment of Gangs of Wasseypur continues on the same line starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the lead.
