Ranveer Singh's Gully Boy has now been nominated for the  Best International Feature Film in the 92nd Academy Awards. The movie was directed by Zoya Akhtar and produced by Excel Entertainment and Tiger Baby Productions. The movie has already broken the record of being the Indian film with the most international awards. Recently several celebrities have spoken about why they think Gully Boy deserves the award, including Priyanka Chopra. Here are five reasons stated by celebs and fans as to why they think Gully Boy should be the film to win in the 92nd Academy Awards.

An amazing portrayal of underground rapping

Gully Boy gives a realistic and honest portrayal of the underground rapping scene that is prevalent in India. Ranveer's acting as the titular Gully Boy mirrors the life story of real underground rappers. The movie revolves around life in the slums and the struggle to raise yourself from that condition and become great.

The songs

The songs in the movie are a great sample for real-life underground rapping. Many of the songs in the film are sung by actual underground rappers. Ranveer himself learnt to rap for this movie and shows his dedication to his role and his love for this genre of music. The movie also helped popularise rap in India. 

The acting

Ranveer Singh and the rest of the cast give an amazing performance that was the forefront of every discussion upon the movie's release. Ranveer's portrayal of a street rapper is inspirational and memorable. The actors play their roles to perfection and never fail to induce the appropriate emotion for each scene.

Gully Boy gives a brutally honest portrayal of India's slum life and how the underground music industry functions. A great amount of research was put in to give audiences an accurate portrayal India's poorest citizens. The movie took inspiration from real-life underground rappers for their lead characters. The culture of the poor citizens of India and the way music is used by them have been beautifully depicted by the filmmakers.

While Gully Boy has only been nominated for the Oscars, it has already won several other international awards. Some of its most prestigious awards include the best feature film award in Asian Academy Creative Awards as well as the best film in Indian Film Festival Of Melbourne. If Gully Boy makes it to the final five nominations, then it will feature in the 92nd Academy Awards.
