It was a no-brainer that Housefull 4 would take a good start at the box office. An established franchise, a star-studded cast, hit songs, and a Diwali release were just some of the reasons. And the first-day figures were on expected lines. The ‘reincarnation comedy’ minted Rs 18.50 crore on opening day. The collection has been termed as ‘healthy’, though it did not witness any noticeable growth towards the evening shows. How the movie fares in the coming days would depend on how the audiences decide to visit the theatres around Diwali.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the news on Twitter. He added that the real test for the movie would be from Monday, when families are expected go to the theatres in big numbers. "#HouseFull4 puts up a healthy number on Day 1... Biz did not grow in evening due to pre-#Diwali festivities... Day 4 [Mon] is extremely crucial, when #Diwalicelebrations begin and families throng cinema halls... Fri ₹ 18.85 cr. #India biz. #HF4,” Taran Adarsh wrote.

A hurdle for the multi-starrer comedy, however, could be the fact that the critics were not too generous to it. Very few reviewers praised the movie, and a most of them ranged from average to poor. Several films bashed by the critics have done well in the past, and it’d be interesting to see if Housefull 4 also manages to do the same.

Lower than Akshay’s other releases this year

The collections, however, are lower than Akshay Kumar’s two other releases of this year, Kesari and Mission Mangal. While the former had earned Rs 20 crore, the latter collected around Rs 27 crore on the first day. However, both the ventures had released on national holidays, Holi and Independence Day respectively. As far as Housefull 4 collections are concerned, the Diwali fervour is only kicking in.

The highest opening day grosser of this has been Hrithik Roshan-Tiger Shroff’s War, which minted over Rs 50 crore. The others in the list include Salman Khan’s Bharat. It had grossed around Rs 36 crore on Eid.

Housefull 4 also stars Riteish Dehsmukh, Kriti Sanon, Kriti Kharbanda, Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Chunky Panday, Rana Daggubati, Johnny Lever, Sharad Lelkar, among others. The comedy has been directed by Farhad Samji. It has been produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and Fox Star Entertainment.
