Actor Tanushree Dutta ignited the #MeToo movement in Bollywood in 2018 when she spoke about harassment on the sets of a film. In September last year, she accused Nana Patekar of sexual harassment on social media and then filed an FIR against for the very next month in October of 2018. Tanushree alleged that Nana Patekar touched her inappropriately during the shooting of their 2009 film Horn 'OK' Pleassss. While the police seem to have closed this case against Nana Patekar due to lack of evidence, the controversy caused by these allegations is still going strong.

Nana Patekar was initially a part of Housefull 4. However, Patekar distanced himself from the project back in October of 2018, after the sexual harassment allegations came to light. In an interview, Nana Patekar's son Malhar revealed that his father felt that his association with the film was causing problems for the creators as well as the cast of Housefull 4. To not cause any inconvenience for them, he backed out of the project himself. This happened right after Sajid Khan, the former director of the film, backed out as well and posted the news on social media. Sajid Khan left due to similar allegations of sexual misconduct in the wake of the #MeToo movement.

Popular Telugu actor and producer, Rana Daggubati has joined the cast of Housefull 4 as a replacement for Nana Patekar. He publicly revealed this information on social media back in November of 2018. This happened merely a month after Patekar backed out of the film. Interestingly, a short while before he signed up for the movie, Rana in an interview to a news organisation said that he wanted to be a part of a big-budget Bollywood comedy, and even named Housefull as a franchise that he would like to be in.

Housefull 4 is directed by Farhad Samji. The movie will star Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh both of whom have been a part of the franchise since the first film came out. It also stars Kriti Sanon and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The official teaser for the movie has been released online. Housefull 4 can be expected to hit theatres on October 26, 2019.
