Amitabh Bachchan is undoubtedly one of the finest actors the industry has produced and is inspirational in more ways than one. He has charmed one and all with his stupendous on-screen presence for decades now. But what many are probably unaware of is Amitabh Bachchan's real-life battle with Hepatitis B. During a recent event for the upcoming 10th season of his reality show 'Kaun Banega Crorepati', the superstar opened up about his diagnosis and his journey with Hepatitis B.

While talking about the various campaigns he is associated with, Amitabh Bachchan said, "I am involved with a number of campaigns. Some are initiated by the Government like Swachh Bharat, Beti Bachao, and a number of medical campaigns like T.B., Hepatitis B, and polio. I have worked on the polio campaign for 8 years and fortunately, India is now polio-free." He further went on to reveal his personal battle with Hepatitis B which he contracted after his accident on the sets of 'Coolie'.

The actor said,

"My associations with Tuberculosis and Hepatitis B started a year back. I have no qualms in admitting that I am associated with the Tuberculosis campaign because I was a patient my self and I am currently battling Hepatitis B. In 1982, when I had an accident on the sets of Coolie, I needed blood and there were about 200 donors and one of them, unfortunately, was carrying the Hepatitis B virus which could not be detected at that time and that went into my system in 1982 and in 2006-07 it was suddenly discovered that it has eaten 75% of my liver. So I am actually surviving on 25% of the liver. I was able to talk about Hepatitis B because I was able to give a live example. The example to not to have sympathy for me or anything like that, the example was, 'get yourself detected, do your tests'. If you do your tuberculosis test, if you do your hepatitis test, then if you have a problem, it can be cured and not wait for 15 years like me."

On the work front, Amitabh Bachchan is currently shooting for 'Brahmastra' co-starring Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor. The first part of Ayan Mukerji's fantasy trilogy which also stars Mouni Roy is set for a release in August 2019.
