John Abraham Signs ‘1911’ With His ‘Batla House’ Team: All You Need To Know About The ‘Historic Moment The Film Is Based On

The trio of John Abraham, Bhushan Kumar and Nikkhil Advani are making it three in a row. After tasting success with Milap Milan Zaveri directorial ‘Satyameva Jayate’ and kick-starting ‘Batla House’, they are now coming together for ‘1911.’ After ‘Batla House’, again Nikkhil takes up the directorial reins, with John in the lead and the duo, along with Bhushan will be producing the movie together.

The story of the movie traces the historic victory of Mohun Bagan against East Yorkshire Regiment in the 1911 IFA Shield Final. John steps into the shoes of Shibdas Bhaduri, who captained the side to the trophy. Bhaduri had scored one goal and assisted another in the 2-1 scoreline. The tournament, which had come into existence in 1893, was dominated by the British teams till then, before Bhaduri’s Mohun Bagan broke that dominance with their win. The victory was considered the biggest achievement in the history of Indian football at that time.  

"What makes '1911' special is that it is not just about the coach, the players or even the game, it's also about India's freedom struggle. Like with 'Parmanu', the idea is to educate in an entertaining way," John said in a statement about his latest signing.

The project ‘1911' has been extremely close to John and reports of him doing the film with Shoojit Sircar had surfaced earlier. However, Nikkhil on the responsibility of directing the film, said, “’1911’ is even better because it moves beyond Bengal to encompass all of India and its history. It's a huge responsibility to tell this story right as it's almost folklore to the people of Bengal as well as it's so close to John," the director said.

Meanwhile, John, who delivered another success this year with ‘Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran’, continues his recent streak of patriotic, message-driven films, also being busy with ‘Romeo Akbar Walter’.
