Joker: Anupam Kher mesmerised, makes big claim for Joaquin Phoenix

Joker had turned out to be a role that became synonymous with the late Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight, after his Academy Award-winning performance. Those having memories of Ledger’s class act, felt that no one could step into the iconic character in the same way. Their opinions could be right, but Joaquin Phoenix too has not been far from the adulation after his performance in Joker. While the DC production is minting moolah at the box office, even the Bollywood stars have been left mesmerised by the lead actor’s performance. Anupam Kher recommended Joker to his followers because he absolutely loved the movie, terming it ‘hauntingly beautiful’ and that its impact lasted much after he left his seat. The veteran is also extremely convinced that the Oscar award would go for Joaquin Phoenix, calling him a ‘Masterclass in acting.’

Taking to Twitter on Sunday, Anupam Kher shared a picture where he is standing beside a poster of Joker and wrote, “Watched #JokerMovie. Loved it. Hauntingly beautiful. Lingers with you for a long time. What can I say about #JouquinPhoenix except that “And the #Oscar goes to him”. Positively. He is FANTASTIC.!! A Masterclass in acting. Go and watch it.”

Kher is currently in the USA where he is shooting for his TV series New Amsterdam. While the Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge star is in the land of Hollywood, Joker’s impact has also reached India. One of Kher’s close friends, Anil Kapoor too was extremely impressed with the movie, stating that the movie was a ‘masterpiece’ and that it had left him 'speechless.'

Joker at box office 

Joker set records at the box office on its release. The movie, directed by Todd Phillips, has minted USD 93.5 million in the first weekend in North America, which is a record for the month of October. The movie has beaten the record of Spider-Man spinoff Venom which had earned USD 80 million. 

At the Indian box office, however, Joker has not been able to make a mark, earning around Rs 10-12 crore since its release. One reason could be War starring Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff and even Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy have taken up most of the screens.
