Shahid Kapoor took to his Twitter handle and replied to a fan who posted a close-up picture of the actor getting legit goosebumps while shooting a crucial scene (where he gets to know he is going to be a father). Responding to the fan, Shahid said he didn't realise it when he was shooting but later was informed by his director Sandeep Reddy Vanga during the edit of the film. He also praised the fan for observing this.

The film released on June 21, 2019. 'Kabir Singh' was criticised across masses soon after the film's release as several critics, audiences, netizens, and fans have described the film as 'misogynistic' that celebrates toxic masculinity. Shahid Kapoor broke his silence over the film's criticism in an interview with an entertainment portal. Stating that the only problem in the film is Kabir Singh's anger, the actor said, "If Kabir hadn't slapped Preeti (Kiara Advani's character), would everything else that he did be okay? Because he slapped the girl, you feel that is unacceptable and that Kabir Singh is an unacceptable character. We want you to feel this is unacceptable, his behaviour has gone beyond control."
