Akshaye and Rahul Khanna’s mother Geetanjali Khanna, first wife of late actor Vinod Khanna, passed away in Maharashtra. She was 70 and was declared dead at an Alibaug hospital on Sunday, according to a report in PTI.
Akshaye and his mother had gone to their farmhouse in Mandwa over the weekend when she felt uneasy and was taken to a hospital in Chondi village near Alibaug, Mandva police station in-charge, assistant police inspector Meghna Burande told PTI.
Following the treatment, the duo returned to the farmhouse and Akshaye guided to her room and asked her to take rest. Later, when the actor came her, he found her unconscious.
He called his brother Rahul in Mumbai and the local doctors, who suggested they take her to an Alibaug hospital, where she was declared dead, the police inspector said.
"It appeared to be a natural death, but doctors have preserved the viscera to ascertain the exact cause of demise," the official told the news agency.
"We recorded Rahul Khanna's statement and have not found anything suspicious," she said. The last rites were held on Sunday afternoon in the presence of the members of the family.
Geetanjali and Vinod had got divorced in 1985, after which the actor-politician had married Kavita Khanna in 1990. They have a son and a daughter, Sakshi and Shraddha.
Vinod, who had worked in popular movies like ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’, ‘Dayavan’, ‘’Qurbani’, among others, has also served as a union minister and a BJP MP. He died in April last year at the age of 70.
Akshaye is yet to feature in a movie this year, but his work in films like 'Ittefaq' and 'Mom' last year were appreciated. He will reportedly next be seen in films like 'The Accidental Prime Minister' and 'Kabir Singh', the remake of 'Arjun Reddy.'
