MAMI 2018 | Aamir Khan, Radhika Apte, Tabu And Others Pose At The Red Carpet

The annual feast for Mumbai’s moviegoers is here. The 20th edition of the Jio MAMI film festival, organised by the Mumbai Academy of the Moving Image (MAMI), stretches from October 25 to November 1, with a spread of 64 films to choose from, in a total of 37 languages, from across 43 countries.

While a lot of aspiring film lovers take part in the festival, Bollywood celebrities too grace the celebrations with their presence. The red carpet which was help today on October 25, witnessed celebs like Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao, Kunal Kapoor, Tabu, Radhika Apte, Kritika Kamra, Kalki Kochelin, Anil Kapoor, and Zoya Akhtar among others.

MAMI chairperson Kiran Rao had recently said there will be more to the festival than just a week-long celebration.

'' The interest has spiked this year, says Kiran, largely due to OTT platforms. This led to a two-day affair, with roughly 37 books – shortlisted from over 200. Suddenly, everybody wants stories, but no one knows where to find them. Which is odd, considering we have people writing in 22 languages in this country. We wanted to be the resource that brought these two industries together.”

 

She further expressed the advantage of the festival and said,

“We figured that in the seven days of MFF, we literally have an overdose of good cinema, and you can’t really do much with it for the rest of the year. A lot of films get left out and a lot of stuff comes out much later. This club gave us a way to get film lovers together four times a month.''

Kiran had mentioned that the festival is relentless work.

She continued, “Eventually, though, we dream of a building. Something along the lines of the BFI or the Film Society of Lincoln Center, a dedicated space for cinema, with four theaters where we can program great cinema all day long. Someday.''
