Mardaani 2: Rani Mukerji back in action with a sequel in a cop avatar

Actor Rani Mukerji, who made her comeback with Hichki in 2018, shoots for the sequel to her 2014 released action-drama Mardaani. Recently, in an interview, the actor said that the sequel will be very real, very alarming to the audience and will make them aware of what is going on in and around their lives. Yash Raj Films, supporting the project, took to their Instagram profile to post about the release of Mardaani 2. The film is scheduled to be released this year on December 13 starring Rani Mukerji as Shivani Shivaji Roy. Maardani 2 will see the directorial debut of Gopi Puthram who was the writer of the first film.

Talking to ANI, Rani Mukerji said, “Maardani is and will always be close to my heart. Right since its release, everyone has asked me time and again when I would be doing Maardani 2. I’m sure this announcement will come as a pleasant surprise to them all. Gopi has written an extraordinary script that we all love and I can’t wait to start shooting this film soon.” 

Rani Mukerji’s role in Mardaani was critically acclaimed by all. In the film, she attempted the role of a senior inspector, Shivani Shivaji Roy. In the movie, she battled a child-trafficking racket. Mardaani will now have a sequel, where she will be seen as a police superintendent, who is at war with a merciless 21-year-old villain.

About the film Mardaani 2

Rani’s husband Aditya Chopra will produce the sequel of Mardaani. The sequel will be directed by Gopi Puthran. Mardaani 2 marks the entry of Rani into a handful of female-centric movies that led to a reboot or a sequel. Kangana Ranaut’s Tanu Weds Manu and Vidya Balan’s Kahaani are a few others that have been renewed earlier for a sequel.
