Late actor Om Puri had an illustrious film career, spanning over four decades. The actor was born in Ambala, Haryana and started his Bollywood career with a Marathi film. The movie, titled Ghashiram Kotwal, was the official adaptation of a Marathi play of the same name. Puri also has several accolades to his credits. As the country celebrates his 69th birth anniversary, let us have a look at some of Puri's best work. 

Here are a few movies of the actor every Bollywood buff must watch 

A.  Arohan (1982)
Quite early in his career, the actor was starred in a Shyam Benegal directorial titled Arohan. Released in 1982, the film narrates the tale of a farmer facing the atrocities of his landlord. The movie has an ensemble cast consisting of Victor Banerjee, Noni Ganguly, Om Puri, among others. Om Puri received the National Award for Best Actor for his portrayal as the poor farmer Hari Mondal in the film. 

B. Ardh Satya (1983) 
Reportedly the movie was offered to Amitabh Bachchan initially, but the actor refused to part of the political drama. Following which, Om Puri bagged the role. Directed by Govind Nihalani, Ardh Satya is considered as one of Puri's best works. The movie, starring Om Puri and Smita Patil in the lead, earned Puri his second National Award. 

C. Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983) 
The movie, starring Naseeruddin Shah and Ravi Baswani in the lead, narrates the tale of two photographers trying their luck at starting their photo studio. The movie, directed by Kundan Shah, was a box office hit. Om Puri is seen playing the role of a corrupt builder in the 1983 movie.  

D. Mirch Masala (1987)
One of the first movies to portray the plight of Indian women during the colonial era, Mirch Masala, was a revolutionary film. Directed by Ketan Mehta, the movie has an impressive star cast. The movie, starring Smita Patil and Deepti Naval in the lead, sees Om Puri in a supporting role.  

E. Narasimha (1991) 
Released in 1991, the movie is considered to be one of Om Puri's best works. Directed by N. Chandra, the movie has an impressive star cast. The movie starring Sunny Deol, Dimple Kapadia and Urmila Matondkar in the lead, was reportedly a box office hit.
