Priyanka Chopra & Salman Khan are most searched Indian stars internationally

Both Priyanka Chopra and Salman Khan are massively popular celebrities in India and both enjoy a huge fan following that supports them in all their endeavours. However, it seems that Priyanka and Salman's popularity is not just limited to the borders of India. A software firm called SEMrush recently conducted a global study where they tried to check the worldwide popularity of Indian actors and celebrities. The study contained research from October of 2018 to October of 2019, and according to their study, Priyanka and Salman are the most searched Indian celebrities internationally.

Priyanka and Salman's international search volumes

According to the research conducted by SEMrush, Priyanka Chopra is the highest searched Indian celebrity worldwide. In December of 2018, the actor had over 13.6 million searches. In contrast, the second most search celebrity, Salman Khan, only had a maximum of 2.74 million searches during the same month. On the final month of their study, October of 2019, Priyanka had around 2.74 million searches while Salman had 1.8 million searches. 

Priyanka has a massive monthly search volume of 4.2 million while Salman has an average of 2 million searches per month. The study by SEMrush was bifurcated between male and female Indian celebrities, so taking the segmentation into consideration, the highest searches male actors are Salman, and Amrish Puri.

When it comes to the ladies, Priyanka takes the lead, with Sunny Leone and Deepika Padukone following close behind her. Sunny Leone has an average of 3 million searches while Deepika has an average of 1.8 million searches. An unexpected result was that Madhubala was the sixth most searched female Indian actor with around 1.3 million searches.

Head of Communications from SEMrush, Fernando Angulo, said that it was surprising to see that worldwide audiences still remember veteran actors such as Amrish and Madhubala. He said that audiences prefered genuine talent and that was why older popular actors who have retired still have a similar search volume to actors who are currently working. He also said that India and other countries have similar tastes as Salman Khan was equally popular all around the globe.
