Producer-director Karan Johar will produce the upcoming Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhatt starrer Brahmastra. The director had revealed in an earlier Twitter post that the fantasy-action-adventure film is going to be one of the most ambitious projects produced under his banner. It was in the same post, in fact, that the Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham director had also mentioned that the film is going to be the first in a trilogy.

However, there is a lot about the film that has been left to speculation. Read on to find out more about the upcoming movie.

Awaiting Trailer

In March this year, at the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, a drone show revealed the logo for the upcoming movie Bhramastra. The official logo was released soon after on social media. It is widely speculated that Brahmastra will feature Amitabh Bachhan as Brahma and Ranbir Kapoor as his protagonist. The movie also has Alia Bhatt as the female lead, while Mouni Roy plays the antagonist. The trailer of Brahmastra is yet to be released. However, a teaser with a voiceover by Amitabh and Ranbir Kapoor is available online.

Director's Take

For director Ayan Mukherjee, son of the Bengali actor Deb Mukherjee, "It was a dream that began in 2011", and that he's "been actively pursuing it since (his last film) Yeh Jawani Hai Diwani released in 2013". When asked about the change in release date of the film, the Wake Up Sid director had to say the following "In the past week, I have learned that all the teams working on the movie, led by my VFX teams, need more time in order to get the VFX right, to get the sound and music right, and eventually to get the film right". The film was earlier clashing with Salman Khan starrer Dabangg 3, which might have spelled disaster for it in terms of box office collection. We wouldn't have wanted that now, would we?

Speculations Aplenty

For any Indian film that has been made with such a high budget, speculations are bound to be aplenty. Fans were quick to make theories about the characters of Ranbir and Alia. For instance, when Alia Bhatt shared an Instagram post with Ranbir Kapoor, captioning it as 'Shiva and Isha', fans were quick to imply that the film Brahmastra is loosely based on the 'Immortals of Meluha' (The first book in the Shiva trilogy authored by Amish Tripathi). Indeed a lot of evidence points to this being the case, what with the promotions starting at Kumbh Mela, a gathering that celebrates the spirit of Lord Shiva.

 

 

In all probability...

The story of Brahmastra might just be about the Hindu god Shiva, played (it would be safe to assume) by Ranbir Kapoor. The book's storyline dealt with a tribal chief who ascends to 'Godhood' in 1900 B.C. If the books are anything to go by, Brahmastra will see a tribal chief Shiva travelling through the length and breadth of ancient India in a bid to protects his village. It will see him clashing or allying with prominent characters from the Hindu mythology in the process.

In the literary trilogy, one sees Shiva achieving, and then coming to terms with his newfound 'God' status. However, the film is probably not a direct adaptation of the book. This was made clear by Karan in an interaction with the audience at an event organised by a reputed national daily. Who knows what could happen in the trilogy then? One is free to speculate that there will be wars and conflicts between heroes and demons; mortals and immortals; Ayurveda and magic. However, one thing is for sure: this three-part adventure, with all its VFX delight, is sure to be a visual treat for the audiences.
