‘Saand Ki Aankh’: Trailer Crosses 55 Million Views On YouTube

The trailer of the Taapsee Pannu-Bhumi Pednekar starrer, ‘Saand Ki Aankh’, was released on 11th July 2019 and has already crossed more than 55 million views on Youtube. The film is based on the world’s oldest sharpshooters, Chandro Tomar and Prakashi Tomar. The film is the directorial debut of the acclaimed scriptwriter, Tushar Hiranandani.

‘Saand Ki Aankh’ is set to be released on 25th October 2019.

More about the trailer

Throughout the trailer, the two women are shown fighting against traditions and patriarchy to make a mark with their skills. The trailer starts with both Chandro Tomar (Bhumi Pednekar) and Prakashi Tomar (Taapsee Pannu) entering a stadium before it switches to a scene where medals are being thrown away and people being shot. The trailer swiftly moves to various shots ofboth Chandro and Prakashi performing at various competitions while the title track plays in the background.

One can also understand the reference of the title in the trailer when Prakashi Tomar tells her trainer that she cannot see a bird’s eye. Instead, she sees a ‘Saand Ki Aankh’ which translates to the English phrase ‘bull’s eye’. Throughout the trailer, there is one aspect that you cannot miss: The chemistry between the two sisters-in-law. The bond between Chandro Tomar and Prakashi Tomar has been beautifully portrayed by both Taapsee and Bhumi on the big screen.

The raw, rugged look in the film

Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar look very raw in the trailer. Their older versions look so real with wrinkles and saggy skin on their face. Both actors are wearing minimal makeup. They are seen donning traditional, middle-class Haryanvi outfits for their roles.

The real story

The real-life Chandro Tomar and Prakashi Tomar are known as ‘Shooter Dadi’ and ‘Revolver Dadi’ respectively. They started their careers after the age of 50. Chandro Tomar has won 25 National Championships and also holds a gold medal in Veteran Shooting Championship. On the other hand, Prakashi Tomar has received the Stree Shakti Puraskar from the then President of India, Pranab Mukherjee.

The trailer has already crossed 55 million views on YouTube. The film was initially titled as ‘Womaniya’.
