Bollywood actor Salman Khan is awaiting the release of his upcoming film Dabangg 3 and fondly remembered the late Vinod Khanna, who played the role of his father in the first two movies of the Dabangg franchise.
Khan and Khanna starred together for the first time in the 1992 film Nischaiy, where the former was portraying the role of the latter's younger brother. The movie is the story of two brothers, Ravi and Rohan Yadav who were separated due to unforeseen circumstances. The film tanked at the box office but had an unusual and interesting storyline. The next film to feature the duo is the action film Wanted, which was a superhit film. The movie ended with an unexpected twist revealing that Vinod Khanna is Salman Khan's father and that Khan is an undercover cop. It was directed by Prabhu Deva and also starred Ayesha Takia and Mahesh Manjrekar in pivotal roles.
Vinod Khanna portrayed the role of Salman Khan's stepfather in the 2010 action comedy film Dabangg. Dabangg also featured Sonakshi Sinha,
Dabangg 2, the sequel of Dabangg continued the duo's working relationship. The movie also has a hilarious scene in the beginning where Khan prank calls Khanna by mimicking a girl's voice. Dabangg 2 was also a blockbuster at the box office.
Vinod Khanna passed away on April 27, 2017 after a long battle with advanced bladder cancer. As a result, the role of Salman's father in Dabangg 3 will be portrayed by Pramod Khanna, Vinod Khanna's brother. Coincidently, the shooting of the film had been wrapped up on Vinod Khanna's birth anniversary on October 6. Khan posted a video on social media stating the same, paying him homage. Dabangg 3 is set to release on December 20 this year.
