Sanjay Dutt is regarded as one of the most charismatic film personalities in India. The son of veteran actors, the late Sunil Dutt and Nargis, Sanjay Dutt has been in the film industry for the last four decades. Having appeared in over 150 films, Sanjay Dutt has managed to showcase his talent as an actor, and has parallelly also found himself in multiple controversies.

Here's a look at some of his biggest films following his debut in Rocky

1. Khalnayak (1993) 

Released around the time Sanjay got embroiled in the 1993 Bombay blasts, Khalnayak turned out to be a resounding box-office success. The Subhash Ghai directorial also featured Jackie Shroff and Madhuri Dixit in pivotal roles. The film's story centered around the escape of a dreaded criminal Ballu (Sanjay Dutt) and his attempted capture by Inspector Ram (Jackie Shroff) and his girlfriend Ganga (Madhuri Dixit). The film achieved notoriety for its song, Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai, but also received praise for Dutt's leading performance. 

2. Vaastav: The Reality (1999)

Directed by Mahesh Manjrekar, Vaastav: The Reality was a career-defining role for Dutt. He played the role of Raghu, a small-time guy who has an unfortunate run-in with some goons, which leads his descent into the Mumbai underworld. The film was an instant hit with audiences and critics, and many consider Sanjay Dutt's Raghu as one of Hindi cinema's most memorable characters. Dutt won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor for this role.

3. Munnabhai M.B.B.S. (2003)

Sanjay Dutt played the now-iconic role of Munna in this 2003 directorial debut of Rajkumar Hirani. The story followed Munna, a small-time goon, and his efforts to get into a medical school in order to teach a lesson to the man who disrespected his father. Sanjay's pairing with Arshad Warsi, who played his loyal sidekick Circuit, is considered to be one of the most popular Hindi film camaraderies. Upon release, the film turned out to be a blockbuster and was also the recipient of the 2004 National Film Award for Best Popular Film. 

4. Lage Raho Munnabhai (2006)

The sequel to 2003's Munnabhai M.B.B.S; this movie was a bigger success, critically and commercially. In this outing, Munna begins to see the spirit of Mahatma Gandhi, and through his interactions with Gandhi, he solves the problems of people. The film popularized the term Gandhigiri. Released in 2006, the film also starred Vidya Balan and is considered to be one of the most celebrated films of Sanjay Dutt's illustrious career.
