Naam (1986)

Naam is a multi-starrer crime-thriller film directed by Mahesh Bhatt. The cast of the movie includes Sanjay Dutt, Kumar Gaurav, Nutan, Pooja Dhillon, Paresh Rawal and Amrita Singh. Naam was a blockbuster hit and stood as the eighth highest-grossing movie of the decade. This film is also said to be a milestone in the careers of Sanjay Dutt, Mahesh Bhatt and Paresh Rawal. The plot of the movie follows the story of Vicky (Sanjay Dutt), who gets trapped in a criminal conspiracy after he leaves his country for work.

Sadak (1991)

Sadak is a romantic-thriller film directed by Mahesh Bhatt. It starred Sanjay Dutt and Pooja Bhatt in the lead roles. This movie was inspired by the 1976 American movie Taxi Driver. Sadak became the highest-grossing movie of the year 1991. The plot of the film revolves around the life of a taxi driver Ravi (Sanjay Dutt), who falls in love with Pooja (Pooja Bhatt). Pooja is forced into prostitution and Ravi battles with her pimp to free Pooja.

Khalnayak (1993)

Khalnayak is an action-thriller film produced and directed by Subhash Ghai. Sanjay Dutt plays the character of a villain in the movie. The story of the movie focuses on the arrest of criminal Ballu (Sanjay Dutt) by Inspector Ram and his girlfriend officer Ganga and Ballu's attempt to escape. The roles of Ram and Ganga are played by Jackie Shroff and Madhuri Dixit respectively. This Sanjay Dutt starrer movie became the second highest-grossing film of the year 1993. Apart from this, the song Choli Ke Peeche Kya hai of the movie became one of the biggest hits of the decade.

Vaastav: The Reality (1999)

Vaastav: The Reality is an action-crime film directed by Mahesh Manjrekar. The film has Sanjay Dutt and Namrata Shirodkar in lead roles. The plot of the movie is based on the life of gangster Chhota Rajan. “The Reality” in the name of the film refers to the harsh reality of underworld life in Mumbai. The Sanjay Dutt starrer was the 14th highest-grossing movie of the decade and is considered as one of the most memorable onscreen movies of Hindi Cinema. Sanjay Dutt was appreciated a lot by both critics and audiences for his character Raghunath Namdev Shivalkar in the film.

Munna Bhai M.B.B.S (2003)

Munna Bhai M.B.B.S is a comedy-drama film directed by Rajkumar Hirani. The movie stars Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi, Gracy Singh, Jimmy Sheirgill and Boman Irani. The story of the movie revolves around a gangster (Sanjay Dutt) who goes to a medical school to fulfill his father’s dream of becoming a doctor. Gangster Munna is supported by his friend circuit throughout his life. At the box office, this Munna Bhai M.B.B.S achieved a silver jubilee status, i.e. it ran for more than 25 weeks in the theatres.
