‘Simmba’ roars at the box office on opening day, sets a record for Ranveer Singh

Ranveer Singh’s ‘Simmba’, directed by Rohit Shetty, has taken a roaring start at the box office on the opening day. The action drama has collected Rs 20.72 crore on Friday, as per a trade report.

With the numbers, Ranveer has recorded his highest-ever first day collections, beating Rs 19 crore set by ‘Padmaavat’ earlier this year. However, the latter had hit the theatres on a Thursday and the day two collections in its case were Rs 32 crore.  

It’s unlikely that ‘Simmba’ will succeed in witnessing such a humongous jump on Saturday as the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial had massive buzz due to the countrywide protests, political interference, censor board trouble and a delayed release. 

‘Simmba’, on the other hand, is riding solely on the mass factor and the first-time team-up between Ranveer-Rohit. It would be interesting to see what would the collections on day two be and if the movie will emulate Padmaavat’s feat of entering the Rs 300-crore club. 

‘Simmba’ first-day collections are around the same figure that ‘Zero’, which had released last week, had achieved. But the ‘masala’ factor of the movie might give it an edge at the ticket windows for the audiences.

‘Simmba’ also features Sara Ali Khan and Sonu Sood, apart from cameos from Ajay Devgn’s much-loved ‘Singham’ character and another superstar. Members of the ‘Golmaal’ team, Arshad Warsi, Shreyas Talpade, Kunal Kemmu and Tusshar Kapoor had also featured in the chartbuster ‘Aankh Maarey.’ The movie has been produced by Rohit Shetty and Karan Johar’s banners and is distributed by Reliance Entertainment.
