'Stop it!': Anupam Kher has a message for ‘Special 26’ co-star Akshay Kumar amid his citizenship row, here's what it is

Controversy over Akshay Kumar’s citizenship didn’t die down even after the actor clarified in a post that he never hid the fact that he held a Canadian passport. ‘Khiladi Kumar’ got flak from a section of the netizens, who trolled him with some harsh words like ‘Farzi Nationalist’ and much more. The actor’s one and only National Award in 2017 also started being questioned. However, amid the row, Akshay’s co-star of many movies like ‘Special 26’ and ‘Baby’, Anupam Kher has come out in support of the ‘Kesari’ star. The veteran actor asked Akshay to stop explaining himself about his loyalty to the country as he is a ‘doer’ and that he should ignore all his detractors.

Kher on Sunday tweeted, “Dear @akshaykumar! Have been reading about you explaining to certain people about your loyalty to our country. Stop it! Their real profession is to make people like you & me feel defensive for talking in favour of India. You are a doer. You don’t need to explain to anybody.” 

Though a fact known to most associated with the film industry since many years, Akshay’s Canadian citizenship started making headlines ever since writer-wife Twinkle Khanna stepped out alone to vote in the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha polls.

Later, Akshay’s 2017 interview about being bestowed with honorary citizenship by Canada turned out to be false after his name was missing from the list of people who have been given the honour.

The ‘Khiladi’ star finally clarified that the negativity surrounding his citizenship was disappointing since he has never hidden that he held a Canadian passport. He added that he never needed to prove his loyalty for the country and that he will continue to work towards making India stronger.
