Films play a large role in shaping the thoughts, as the visual medium has the power to influence the strongest of minds. In the 100 years of Bollywood, several films on a varied range of topic s have been made. But one topic that has been doing the rounds since ages his patriotism. 

1. BORDER (1997)

Talk about patriotic films and this would probably be the first film that comes to your mind. Directed by JP Dutta this war film is about the Battle of Longewala that happened in 1971 during the Indo-Pakistan war. The film stars Sunny Deol, Sunil Shetty, Tabu, Pooja Bhatt, Akshaye Khanna, Khulbhushan Kharbanda, Jackie Shroff, Puneet Isssar among others. The songs from the film are a hit and are even heard today, during Independence Day and Republic Day celebrations. 

2. RANG DE BASANTI (2006) 

The film directed by Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra begins with a British filmmaker making a documentary on the Indian Independence movement based on the entries made in a diary owned by her grandfather. The cast including Siddharth Narayan, Aamir Khan, Soha Ali Khan, Kunal Kapoor, Sharman Joshi and Atul Kulkarni agree to be a part of the film. However, things get serious when the group of friends discovers the dirty politics responsible for the death of their pilot friend played by R Madhavan. 

3. GADAR- EK PREM KATHA (2001)

Starring Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel and Amrish P{uri in the lead, this film set during the partition will surely give you the chills. The film was a massive hit and is the second most watched Hindi film. 

4. SARFAROSH (1999) 

The film is about a police officer who is set to stop cross-border terrorism. The film was a major success and the makers have now decided to work on the sequel of the film. 

5. LAGAAN (2001)

Set in the British era, Aamir Khan plays a village man who takes up the cricket challenge by their rulers so as to prevent a tax imposed on them. With no guns and armour, this is one of the finest films and was even nominated at the Oscars. 

6. AIRLIFT (2016) 

The film is directed by Raja Krishna Menon and stars Akshay Kumar and Nimrat Kaur. The film is based on real-life incidents. In 1990 Sadam Hussein had invaded Kuwait and several Indians were stuck there. Akshay Kumar, who plays a wealthy businessman, then takes it upon him to evacuate all the Indians. 

7. A WEDNESDAY (2008)

The film directed by Neeraj Pandey focuses on the problem faced by common man. Naseeruddin Shah who plays a common man in the film shakes the entire system when he sets out to wipe the unnecessary elements in the society that are hampering the peace and security of the society. The film also stars Anupam Kher. 

8. CHAK DE! INDIA  (2009)

Shah Rukh Khan plays a Muslim hockey player turned coach of Women's Hockey team of India. The film deals with the Hindu-Muslim angle beautifully and conveys that gender and religion can never come in the way of patriotism for your country. 

9. BABY (2015) 

The film revolves around the mission of a task force, which is formed in response to the 2008 Mumbai terror attack.  

10. GOLD (2018)

The film traces the 12-year journey before an Independent India won its first gold medal in the Olympics in hockey. Akshay Kumar plays the manager of Indian hockey team and dreams of seeing the Indian national flag rising high.
