It was a contrasting tale for new releases this weekend as ‘Judgementall Hai Kya’ did well, earning over Rs 20 crore, but ‘Arjun Patiala’ performed poorly at the box office. Meanwhile, ‘The Lion King’ hit the Rs 100-crore mark at the ticket windows, and there were milestones for earlier releases like ‘Kabir Singh’ and ‘Super 30’, achieving Rs 275-crore and Rs 125-crore marks respectively.
Kangana Ranaut-Rajkummar Rao-starrer comic thriller ‘Judgementall Hai Kya’, as per figures released by the makers, Balaji Motion Pictures, has earned Rs 22.04 crore over the weekend.
Though some trade reports are pegging the collections at around Rs 20 crore, the overall performance has been termed as ‘fair’ with substantial growth over the weekend, from around Rs 5 crore on opening day to Rs 7-8 crore on Saturday and Sunday. The multiplexes are mainly driving the business for the movie.
Meanwhile, Kriti Sanon-Diljit Dosanjh-Varun Sharma-starrer ‘Arjun Patiala’ has reportedly earned around Rs 5 crore over the weekend, showing only a minimal growth from Rs 1.25 crore on Friday to Rs 1.75 crore on Sunday.
On the other hand, ‘The Lion King’ did better than all the other releases, earning Rs 32.70 crore, as per trade analyst Taran Adarsh. With the figures, it has not just crossed the Rs 100-crore mark, but also has taken the overall tally to Rs 114.27 crore. The recreation of the iconic Disney animation tale showed mindboggling growth, from Rs 5.35 crore to Rs 12.22 crore to Rs 15.13 crore over the three days.
There were significant milestones for the earlier hits as well, Shahid Kapoor-Kiara Advani-starrer ‘Kabir Singh’ is still raking in the moolah, Rs 1.60 crore in the weekend, to hit the Rs 275-crore mark and maintain its status as the highest-grossing film of the year.
Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Super 30’ also consolidated its ‘hit’ status at the box office, earning Rs 12.20 crore, aided by impressive growth, from Rs 2.14 crore on Friday, Rs 4.47 crore on Saturday to Rs 5.61 crore on Sunday. The total now stands at Rs 125.93 crore.
Apart from ‘The Lion King’, ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’, has also done well, adding Rs 1.01 crore to its total, to now take the collections to Rs 84.83 crore.
