'Threats must stop', says Anubhav Sinha after Karni Sena, other outfits protest against the Ayushmann Khurrana starrer 'Article 15'

After ‘Padmaavat’ and ‘Manikarnika’, the Karni Sena is up in arms against this Friday's release ‘Article 15’ as well. The fringe outfit is not the only one this time as the International Brahmin Mahasabha and Parshuram Sena have also protested against the portrayal of caste equations in the Ayushmannn Khurrana starrer. The filmmaker slammed the groups' allegation of him making an 'anti-Brahmin film', while demanding the group respects the decision of the Central Board of Film Certification that has certified the movie.

‘Article 15’ traces the story of an investigation team led by Ayushmann probing the death of two teenage girls, found hanging from a tree, as caste equations also come into the picture. The outfits are opposing the film for allegedly showcasing the upper caste Brahmins in a negative light. 

When asked about it in a recent interview with a tabloid, the filmmaker asked rhetorically why would he make such an anti-Brahmin film. Sinha stated that there were numerous Brahmins who had worked on the film to know if anything in the film was against the community.

Sinha also stated that ‘Article 15’ has been given a U/A certificate by the censor board, and it’s high time the decisions of the board was respected by such groups. 

It's being reported that Sinha has been receiving threats ever since the trailer surfaced. As per reports, several cinema houses have threatened of demonstrations outside these theatres by these outfits.     

Speaking about the threats, the filmmaker stated that directors can’t constantly be 'bullied' like this and that the CBFC should raise the matter with the Home Ministry to stop threats against films.  

While the film claims to be based on real events, the plot is being connected to the 2014 Badaun case. However, Ayushmann had recently stated that the film was not based on one particular incident.
