Vishal Bhardwaj's 'Rangoon' was highly anticipated before its release. However, it was a disaster at the box office and Saif Ali Khan, Shahid Kapoor and Kangana Ranaut failed to salvage this film. Now, the filmmaker has finally broken his silence on the film and revealed what he thought was the reason behind its failure.

Vishal blamed a plethora of reasons for the film failing to hit the mark. He felt that he was trying to make a musical seem more realistic, the VFX work was quite challenging and most importantly, the actors did not get along well with each other. He added that the combination of all these reasons resulted in Rangoon becoming  a mess towards the end. Elaborating on the actors- Shahid, Kangana and Saif not gelling well part, he feels that it must have affected the output in some way. However, he added that he did not even watch the film since its release so cannot confirm it for sure.

The director also talked about the films he believes are his achievements in which he added flicks like 'Haider', 'Maqbool' and 'Omkara'. Overall, the comments from the filmmaker are truly surprising to say the least for he has placed the responsibility of the film tanking on the three actors. It remains to be seen if they respond to it or not. Rangoon was Shahid's third collaboration with Vishal after 'Haider'.

The filmmaker on the other hand recently released a film called 'Pataakha' which did decent in its demographic, for most of Vishal's films are considered niche. He had also made headlines when he had slammed the Central Board of Film Certification for imposing censorship in films. Lamenting on things like protests from animal rights organisations to continuously displaying no smoking disclaimers in films, he felt that there was very little an artist could do with so many restrictions.
