Director Vivek Agnihotri stated in a recent interview that his latest film The Vaccine War is a "true superhero movie". The Kashmir Files director had also earlier claimed that The Vaccine War is India's first Bio-Science movie. Starring Nana Patekar and Pallavi Joshi in lead roles, The Vaccine War is slated to release on September 28.

3 things you need to know

  • Vivek Agnihotri announced the release date for The Vaccine War on August 15.
  • The Vaccine War advance booking is open now.
  • It will clash with Fukrey 3 and Chandramukhi 2 at the box office.

This is a victory film, says The Kashmir Files director

Speaking with Galatta, Vivek Agnihotri explained why he doesn’t want to think of The Vaccine War as a story about COVID-19 pandemic or Covid warriors, even though the film revolves around the COVID-19 pandemic, and the scientific research around that phase, He added, “It’s got nothing to do with doctors or patients.” Agnihotri said he prefers to call it a "victory film and a war film" instead.

Elaborating further on his classification, Agnihotri said, “When the pandemic began, most of the world said India would perish. A small but powerful section said that crores of Indians will die in this pandemic. It is the story of a certain bunch of scientists who believed India could do it, while others kept saying India could not do it. And how they made the world’s fastest Indigenous vaccine - it’s the story of that. So it's a true superhero movie.”

The Vaccine War first Indian movie to use 'true story' tagline

Addressing the accusations of being called a propaganda filmmaker, Agnihotri stated, "I am making political films, and I have an agenda. I want to start conversations." Agnihotri also pointed out in the interview that The Vaccine War is the first film to be allowed to use the tagline ‘a true story’ - something no Hindi film has been allowed to do in the past. The Vaccine War is slated to release on September 28 and will clash with Kangana Ranaut starrer Chandramukhi 2 and Fukrey 3.
