As the ongoing divorce battle between Hollywood's estranged star couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie has worsened, Jolie has recently dropped 'Pitt' from her last name. The news comes two days after it was reported that Jolie and Pitt, 55, are legally single.

According to court documents obtained by The Blast, the former couple filed a judgment on April 12 to move for a bifurcated judgement, which means they could end their marriage even as they continue to negotiate their divorce settlement.

Sources told the publication "it was very important for the stars to emotionally break away from each other and begin their new single lives, so the documents were fast-tracked with their private judge".

The former couple's children are also listed on the document, but their names will continue to be hyphenated, Jolie-Pitt.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have spent much of the time since then fighting the custody battle for their children that started two years back. They have six children together, Maddox (17), Pax (14), Zahara (13), Shiloh (12), and 10-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox. However, reportedly, the issue is now settled as they have come to a mutual agreement.

The couple announced their split after several years of courtship and two years of marriage in September 2016, when Jolie filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. Reportedly, the other cause of their split was Brad's alleged misbehaviour with their son Maddox which was however not confirmed.

Moreover reports state that the actress had previously accused Pitt of not providing enough money for child-support since their separation. She had also accused him of being a careless father. However, in reply, the 'Fight Club' star reportedly stated that he had filed for a loan of 8 million USD to help the actress buy a house.

Jolie and Pitt tied the knot in 2014 after seven years of dating. They have worked together in several films including the 2005 action-thriller 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith' and 2015 romantic drama 'By the Sea' that was directed by Jolie herself.
