Cate Shortland to direct Marvel's 'Black Widow'

Beating 70 others directors in the hunt to find a director for its second woman-centric superhero movie Black Widow, Marvel Studios have finally selected Australian filmmaker Cate Shortland to lead with the direction of the stand-alone movie.

Shortland is known for her drama flicks such as Somersault, Lore, and Berlin Syndrome. The release date of the Scarlett Johansson-led movie has not been decided yet. However, this news comes with a sense of conformity on the movie’s proceedings.

The movie’s script was penned by Jac Schaeffer, who is also the writer of the upcoming women-centric re-imagining of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels titled Nasty Women.

The revelation of Marvel’s future stand-alone projects has kept the fans on their toes. Its mega-blockbuster movie Avengers: Infinity War not only took the box office by storm, but also left all the fans with a thousand lingering questions in their minds.

The comic entertainment company has been playing its cards close to the chest with Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Entertainment, being the only one who continues to be the only one who knows about the fate of all the superheroes.

Its upcoming movie Captain Marvel played by Brie Larson which will hit the theaters in March 2019, might hold crucial significance in the franchise considering that Samuel Jackson aka Nick Fury paged the former before turning into dust.

The movie is said to be set in the 1990s which is previously an unexplored era in the MCU. This means that not only the movie is the first prequel since Captain America: The First Avenger, but also that she had been active in this entire time in some part of the universe.

We wonder how come the Guardians of the Galaxy never encountered her?
