Mark Rylance, one of the key cast members of Christopher Nolan's WWII epic Dunkirk, who plays the captain of a sailing boat requisitioned by the Army, while talking to The Independent, opened up on the peculiar mode of work that the celebrated director adapts on the sets. Rylance, who won the 2016 Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Bridge of Spies opposite Tom Hanks, shared his experience on Nolan being really particular about using film and making everything look realistic.

As per media reports, Rylance said that Nolan is very particular about using film and prefers everything being real in front of the camera. He revealed that Nolan uses a lot of old techniques in this film to make it look real. Specifying one scene he said, the flames on the water and men swimming in them he wanted all of that to look real as he really wants to minimize the amount of post-production and CGI. Definitely, it is not what you'd expect to hear about the maker of films such as Inception, Interstellar, The Dark Knight and The Prestige

Rylance also revealed that the Interstellar helmer does not allow chairs and bottles of water on the set because they are distractions. He said Nolan considers the noise of the bottles like the sound of toys and he thinks that having them around will distract the actors in the same way as children get distracted with toys. And explain his concept of having few chairs around, he says that keeps the actors on their toes. This is not the first time an actor has made such revelations about Nolan. At the time of Inception(2010), Tom Hardy revealed in an interview that Nolan does not have a phone or an e-mail id because he prefers talking about things face to face. Meanwhile, Dunkirk is having a solid run in the Box-office and could run past 200 million USD worldwide in the coming days.
