Hollywood movies have taken inspiration from books and other stories but there are many movies that have been directly inspired by TV shows. One of the recent addition to this list has been El Camino which follows up the story of Jessie Pinkman. Several of these movies have become cult classic or have been an utter disaster and nowhere close to the original TV series, based on reviews from both fans and critics alike. Take a look at some of these movies that were directly inspired by TV shows or were a continuation of them.

Hollywood movies inspired by TV series

1. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

This animated TV series based on comic books created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird now has become a cult classic. The TV show right from its inception became a favourite among its audience. The live-action of this hit TV series also worked its wonders on the big screen. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles directed by Steve Barron did not compromise on the originality of the series and hence was a box-office success.

2. Scooby-Doo

Scooby Dooby doooo! This little line from the title track of the animated series and the quirky elements of its storyline to date remain fresh in the minds of its audience. But fate has something different written for the live-action film of the TV series. The best of CGI and jokes could not save the film. The 2002 live-action Scooby-Doo failed to work the same magic as the nostalgic animated series.

3. 21 Jump Street

The original TV series 21 Jump Street aired from 1987 – 1991 and turned Johnny Depp, the undercover cop into a teen sensation. The TV series that had undercover cops investigating crimes in high schools, colleges, and other places got its movie with Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum as the young cops. There were high chances of the project being a complete disaster but 21 Jump Street jumped high when it came to being a funny, R-rated film with surprises packed on every turn.

4. Mission Impossible

Mission Impossible has now become synonymous with Tom Cruise. But this Tom Cruise and action-packed Franchise was actually inspired by a show of the same name which aired from 1966-1990. Tom Cruise and the director of the film Brian De Palma made the original TV series concept much bigger and better. Its elaborative filming and cast have now become more impactful than the TV series itself.
