Eminem has evidently earned the title of 'King Of Hip Hop'. The 47-year-old rapper made his debut back in 1998 in the music industry and has been active for over 20 years. Eminem has won all the major prestigious awards in the Industry including Grammy Awards, Academy Awards and People's Choice Awards. The rapper has over 150 awards and 340 nominations in commercial music. Behind the phenomenal success of Eminem, is a story of struggle and passion. He has been vocal about his journey in life through his words and music. Here's a look at the life of Eminem through the early years.

Early life

Eminem's real name is Marshall Bruce Mathers III. He was born on October 17, 1972, in St. Joseph, Missouri to a fifteen-year-old mother. He never met his father as he left when Eminem was just six months old. He spent most of his childhood shifting back and forth from St. Joseph and Detroit. Due to his family situation, Eminem had to shift several schools while growing up which reportedly had an adverse effect on his childhood. Eminem has stated in several interviews that shifting schools every two to three months made him socially anxious as a child. Eminem has been open about his experience with bullying, he has stated that he was subjected to various incidents where he was violently bullied. As a nine-year-old, Eminem was once beaten up so badly by bullies that he spent over a week in a coma. He has stated that he deliberately failed the class 9th three times cause he lost all interest in school. He eventually dropped out of high school to pursue rapping.

Rise to fame

He started chasing the rapping career at an early age of 14. The hip-hop industry back then was dominated by the African-American community who didn't welcome a Caucasian rapper like Eminem. He earned a name for himself by becoming a battle rapper, he performed in various underground clubs as a 17-year-old teenager. Acceptance did not come easily for Eminem as he had to struggle through various aspects of traumas while finding a path to the mainstream music industry. While rapping in the underground clubs, he would work odd jobs to make ends meet. In 2019, Eminem has the luxury of calling himself the richest rapper in the world with a net worth of 225 million dollars.
