Ethan Hawke famously known or his Before trilogy turned 49 on November 6. Ethan Hawke gained spotlight after his ground-breaking role in the 1989 film Dead Poets Society. The Boyhood actor since then has gone on to become a writer and a director as well. So to celebrate Ethan’s birthday here the best movie roles to date. Take a look.

1. Dead Poets Society (1989)

Ethan Hawke’s portrayal of a newbie in Vermont all-boys school was as authentic as the story of this film. Ethan played the role of Todd Anderson in the film and was successful enough in nailing the new boy’s attitude and timid nature towards new situations. One of the best scenes from the film is Ethan a.k.a. making a poem on spot due to his English teacher (Robin Williams) insisting him to do so.

2. Before Trilogy (1995, 2004, 2013)

The Before Trilogy showed a different side to Ethan Hawke’s acting chops. His role as Jesse in the film was all about being curious and free-flowing at the same time. The critically acclaimed trilogy provided a new boost to Ethan Hawke’s career.

3. Boyhood (2014)

Boyhood is considered to be a cinematic masterpiece by Richard Linklater. The film which is filmed over a span of 12 years depicted the story of a six-year-old boy Mason Evans Jr. who is born and brought up in Texas. Ethan Hawke played the role of Mason’s father who himself separates from his wife and Evans' mother and also witnesses the changes in his son over the years. Ethan Hawke’s role as Mason Evans Sr. was critically acclaimed for being honest and humane at the same time.

4. First Reformed (2017)

Ethan Hawke's career graph is an example of his fine acting abilities. But his film First Reformed was a performance par excellence. In the film, Ethan played the role of a Protestant minister who is dealing with his own set of problems such as alcoholism and being involved in an intra-personal debate about faith and humanity. Ethan’s portrayal of Pastor Ernst Toller was not only critically acclaimed but appreciated by the audience. The audience cited to be one of Ethan Hawke’s best performances to date.
