Warner Bros. latest offering, Joker, starring Joaquin Phoenix, will now be released in Indian cinemas 2 days earlier on October 2. It's original release date that was scheduled on October 4. Keeping in mind that it will be a national holiday, Joker will be clashing with Bollywood thriller titled War starring Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff and a film from the south titled Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy.

The Origin Story

Being helmed by The Hangover fame director, Todd Phillips, the feature film goes down a new path by tracing the Joker's origin story. In the film, Phoenix plays the character of Arthur Miller, an unsuccessful comic who's mental instability leads him down on a path of crime and violence.

Apart from the Joaquin, the movie has a stellar cast with the likes of Bill Camp, Brett Cullen, Robert De Niro, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham. The movie will act as a stand-alone story and will not have any reference to the caped crusader aka Batman.

From the time Joker got an 8-minute standing ovation at the Venice film festival and was awarded the top honour at the film festival, i.e. the Golden Lion, it has created an early Oscar frenzy.

Questioned about violence

Joaquin Phoenix recently stormed out of an interview after he was questioned on the level of violence the movie contained and if it would incite people to be more violent or not. Two scenes, in particular, have been highlighted with one showing the Joker shooting his fellow mate at a point-blank range and other showcasing a riot like situation ensuing among his supporters. This led to many of the critics wondering whether the film would showcase violence in the same wat as that of Taxi Driver and A Clockwork Orange.

Warner Bros. has many other films in the wings such as the spinoff to Suicide Squad titled Birds of Prey, Wonder Woman 2, The Batman starring Robert Pattinson and a sequel to DC's most successful film Aquaman.
