Jon Favreau: Scorsese, Coppola have 'earned right' to criticise Marvel

American actor and filmmaker Jon Favreau, who has directed Marvel's Iron Man and its sequel, addressed Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola’s criticisms of Marvel movie. He said they are free to criticize the superhero movies as they have earned the right to express their opinions. Favreau is associated with the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the director of some of its films but he does not mind anything of Scorsese's remark who compared Marvel films to a theme park and called them "not cinema". He also added that both of them are heroes and they have the right to express their opinions.

Marvel movies "not cinema": Scorsese

Favreau said he would not be doing what he is doing today if they did not point out at him. He said that they served as a source of inspiration. Favreau said that the filmmakers are free to express whatever opinion they like. This came to limelight after Scorsese made his remarks on Marvel films when he called them "not cinema" at a press conference held at BFI London Film Festival. The Godfather director Coppola agreed to his comments. Coppola said that Martin was kind and honestly said the truth that it is not cinema. The filmmaker added that Martin Scorsese saying the Marvel pictures are not cinema is absolutely right.

Taika Waititi reacts to Scorsese's remarks

Earlier Oscar-nominated Brazilian filmmaker Fernando Meirelles said that he does not know whether superhero films are bad as he has not watched any of the films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Director Taika Waititi who has directed Thor: Ragnarok, produced by Marvel Studios reacted to the comments of the legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese about the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and superhero movies. But the strongest reaction came from actor Samuel L Jackson, who has featured in modern classics like Pulp Fiction. Jackson pointed out that not everyone is a fan of Scorcese’s film either.
