1. Erin Brokovich

This 2000 film is based on a true story of Erin Brokovich an American legal clerk and activist. Julia Roberts’ portrayal of this woman who went on to take down the Pacific Gas and Electric Company lead her to win an Academy Award that year. Roberts also won a BAFTA, Golden Globe Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award. Erin Brokovich directed by Steven Soderbergh went on to become a box-office success and was also won critical acclaim for the dramatization of this true story.

2. Notting Hill

Julia Roberts played the role of an American actor in this British film alongside Hugh Grant who played the role of a bookseller. Julia’s stunning portrayal of the American actor and her personal turmoil won her critical acclaim. The chemistry between the lead cast also received positive reviews and Notting Hill became the highest-grossing British Film of 1999.

3. Mona Lisa Smile

Mona Lisa Smile was another iconic performance by Julia Roberts. In the film, Roberts played the role of Katherine Watson a history teacher who wants her female batch of students at a conservative college to aspire more than being an eligible candidate for marriage. Julia’s character receives strong resistance for her modern ideas and for misleading young women. Although the film received mix reviews, Julia’s role was appreciated.

4. Pretty Woman

Julia Roberts’ role as Vivian Ward a sex worker from California became one of the most talked-about roles by the actor. This romantic comedy released in 1990 was well received at the box-office and the audience went gaga over Julia as the red-headed sex worker who then falls in love with her client while also facing an internal debate regarding the difference in their lives. Julia Roberts won a Golden Globe that year of this role and also received an Oscar nomination.
