Lupita Nyong'o wants diversity and inclusion to become a norm not a fad

Lupita Nyong'o recently was a part of the actors' roundtable conference where she talked about diversity and inclusion in Hollywood and about her role in 'Us'

Lupita Nyong’o recently spoke about the diversity and inclusion in Hollywood during a roundtable conference conducted by a leading U.S. media publication. At the conference, she also spoke about her film Us and the preparation for the double role in the Peele directed film. 

Lupita Nyong’o talks about diversity in Hollywood

In the conference, Lupita Nyong’o participated alongside side Jennifer Lopez, Scarlett Johansson, Laura Dern, Awkwafina, and Renee Zellweger. During the roundtable conference, Lupita said that the ‘Me Too’ and ‘Time’s Up’ movement was about allowing for equitable representation. She added that she is benefiting from the efforts a lot of other women who came before her. She also added that other black female actors have had to face much tougher situations than her and she is aware of it.

Lupita Nyong’o further continued by stating that this a time when directors like Steve McQueen and Jordan Peele are being given chances to work so they can write stories about someone like her in their mind. Lupita also sheds light on how Hollywood is at a point of time where there is a concerted effort to consider diversity and inclusion. But the 12 Years a Slave actor said that what she really wants is for this inclusion to not be a fad or a trend. Lupita Nyong’o continued by stating that right now working with women and underrepresented groups in considered to be cool and a trend but she wants this maturity to turn from a fad to a norm.

The Black Panther actor then talked about her role in the horror-thriller Us, which released in March. Lupita Nyong’o said that she had to play two characters in the film had the preparation time of one. She then reflected on the fact that every time she works on a new role she asks herself whether she has what it takes for that role. Lupita added that, as an actor, she always wants to move from a place of ignorance to a sense of little expertise regarding her role until the film wraps.
