According to reports, Hollywood actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, will be seen playing the lead role in 'Matrix 4'. Lana Wachowski has been meeting actors over the past few weeks, for lead roles in the latest instalment in the 'Matrix' franchise.
The Aquaman star will join the famous Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss, who will be reprising their original roles in the film. According to reports, Warner Bros. Pictures along with Village Roadshow Pictures will be producing and distributing the film, across the globe.
This year in August, the studio had announced that a fourth 'Matrix' movie is officially in the works written and directed by Wachowski; and Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell have written the script. Reeves and Moss will reprise their roles as Neo and Trinity. Wachowski is also producing the film with Grant Hill. The film is expected to begin production at the beginning of 2020.
The studios had been figuring a way to get Matrix back in the market, but had to slow down the project due to the production rights. The studio has recently seen the opportunity to ramp up development, with Reeves boasting a strong summer that included box office hits 'John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum' and 'Toy Story 4', in addition to a solid script from Wachowski.
However, the script details are still unknown. According to rumors, a young Morpheus could appear in the movie. As per reports, sources close to the film would not confirm Abdul-Mateen’s specific role. Statistics reveal that the previous films, 'The Matrix', 'The Matrix Reloaded', and 'The Matrix Revolutions', starring Reeves and Moss, collectively made more than $1.6 billion at the global box office, all scripted and directed by Lana and her sister.
