It's the birthday of the legendary international filmmaker Christopher Nolan who is known for his niche of films. The director-producer-playwright turns 49 years old on Tuesday, July 30, who made his directorial debut with 1998 venture 'Following' treated fans with a number of remarkable films over his career in the industry. The Oscar awardee is known for making films explore metaphysical themes, and is regarded as an auteur.

While all 10 of his films has received critical and commercial success, let's rank his films according to their success, evaluating the ratings of the film from Rotten Tomatoes, which aggregates review from several international critics, and IMDb which summarises fan ratings. 

1. The Dark Knight (2008)

The Dark Knight which is the second installment of Nolan's Batman trilogy is one of his most celebrated ventures. In the film, while Christian Bale resumes his role as the Batman, it introduces Heath Ledger as Joker. The distinctive portrayal of the DC villain in the film received huge appreciation from the audience.

2. Memento (2000)

Memento is A neo-noir psychological thriller based on a pitch by Jonathan Nolan, who later wrote the story 'Memento Mori' from the concept. It tells the story of an insurance investigator Leonard Shelby, who suffers from anterograde amnesia and uses notes and tattoos to hunt for the man he thinks killed his wife, which is the last thing he remembers.

3. Inception (2010)

The much-celebrated science fiction action film written and directed by Christopher Nolan, tells the story of a man who steals information from his targets by entering their dreams. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead.

5. Dunkirk (2017) 

Set in the backdrop of World War II, Dunkirk is a masterpiece created by Nolan portraying the struggle of the soldiers from the British Empire, Belgium and France to evacuate from the town of Dunkirk during an arduous battle with German forces.

6. Batman Begins (2005)

Based on the DC Comics character Batman, Nolan wrote and directed the superhero venture starring Christian Bale in the lead. It was the first film of Nolan's Batman trilogy and was widely appreciated by the audience. It grossed over 374.2 million USD. Besides Bale, it also starred Michael Caine, Liam Neeson, Katie Holmes, Gary Oldman, Cillian Murphy, Tom Wilkinson, Rutger Hauer, Ken Watanabe, and Morgan Freeman.

7. Insomnia (2002)

Insomnia is a mystery psycho-thriller directed by Nolan, which tells the story of a detective who goes to an Alaskan town to investigate the killing of a teenaged girl. The main suspect plays a psychological game of cat and mouse with him, jeopardizing his own mental stability. It starred Al Pacino, Robin Williams, and Hilary Swank in the lead.

8. The Prestige (2006)

Set in the backdrop of 19th century London, the psychological thriller film directed by Nolan follows two friends and fellow magicians, Robert Angier and Alfred Borden, who becomes bitter enemies after a tragedy. It starred Huge Jackman and Christian Bale in the lead.

9. Interstellar (2014)

Interstellar is a science fiction drama which has a very interesting approach to time and space. It shows how ex-NASA pilot Cooper, along with a team of researchers, is sent on a planet exploration mission to report which planet can sustain life in the future. Directed and produced by Christopher Nolan, the film also stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Bill Irwin, Ellen Burstyn, and Michael Caine.

10. Following (1998)

The British neo-noir crime thriller, written and directed by Christopher Nolan, tells the story of a writer living in London who follows strangers around the streets to take inspiration from their lives for his novels. However, as the hobby becomes an obsession, he is drawn into a criminal underworld. The film was a massive hit with a collection of over 240.4 thousand US Dollars in 1998.

Meanwhile, Nolan's 11th film 'Tenet' is in making and it stars veteran Bollywood actress Dimple Kapadia alongside John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Clémence Poésy, Michael Caine, and Kenneth Branagh in the lead. It is set for 2020 release.
