On the 74th birth anniversary of Lachhu Maharaj, Google dedicated a doodle to him. The doodle was brought to existence by Sajid Shaikh. Over a course of time, Pandit Lachhu Maharaj has impressed many classical music fans with his brilliant tabla skills. We compile a list of must-watch Lachhu Maharaj’s epic performance videos. Indian Tabla maestro, Lachhu Maharaj’s 74th birth anniversary marks on October 16. On this day, Google dedicated a special doodle to the legend. Born as Lakshmi Narayan Singh in 1944 to a family of musicians, Lachu Maharaj from the Benaras Gharana, is one of the most celebrated tabla players in the country. Because of his exposure to music, he chose tabla at a very young age and started training to master the art form. He trained under his father, Vasudev Maharaj.

Lachhu Maharaj impressed many at a very young age. Ahmed Jaan Thirakwa, one of the most prominent tabla players of the 20th century, observed Lachhu Maharaj when he was just eight years old. He was amused by the talent the young maestro had. Thirakwa expressed his wish of having a son like Lachhu Maharaj.  Besides playing the tabla at classical concerts, Lachhu Maharaj was a popular choice by music composers for several movies as well. Reportedly, Lachhu Maharaj was nominated to receive a Padma Shri but refused to take it because he only believed in the audience’s appreciation.
