Balabhaskar Helped Raise Money For Music Teams Through Street Concerts, Reveals Friend

Balabhaskar's friend Jassie Gift revealed that the musician not only led the music team but helped raise funds for other teams through street music concerts, during their college days.

Renowned violinist Balabhaskar suffered a massive cardiac arrest breathing his last, a week after meeting with an accident which also proved to be fatal to his two-year-old daughter, Tejaswini. While his daughter passed away post the accident, Balabhaskar's wife Lakshmi is still battling for her life in a hospital in Thiruvananthapuram.

On September 25, the family of three, accompanied by Balabhaskar's friend Arjun, were returning from a temple in Thrissur when their car rammed into a tree. Arjun was allegedly behind the wheel when the incident occurred and suffered injuries. Balabhaskar was undergoing treatment at the Ananthapuri Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram and was on ventilator support after sustaining multiple organ failure, multiple fractures in his legs and a dislocated neck. On Tuesday, October 2, the musician passed away owing to his injuries, followed by a massive cardiac arrest.

On Tuesday, October 2, family, friends, and well-wishers thronged to University College, Balabhaskar's alma mater and the Kalabhavan theatre (where his mortal remains were kept) to pay their last respects. As the music maestro was bid a teary-eyed farewell, his friends reminisced about their time spent with Balabhaskar. According to his friends, he was not only a gifted musician but also a man with a big heart. As per reports, one of Balabhaskar's friends, Jassie Gift revealed that during their college days, the late violinist not only led the music team but helped raise funds for other teams through street music concerts.

Balabhaskar, who began his career at the age of 12, became one of the youngest music composers to have work in the Malayalam film industry. He is often regarded as the one to have introduced fusion music to Kerala and has composed music for three films and had released several albums. 

The 40-year-old violinist was cremated with state honours at Electric Crematorium in Thycaud on Wednesday, October 3. In addition to his family, friends, and fans, Kerala Health Minister KK Shailaja, CPI(M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala, musicians Vidhu Pratap and Stephen Devassy paid their last respects to Balabhaskar.
